July 2010.
Building regulation changes come in to force on October 1st 2010 which will effect all replacement window installations. All window companies will have to comply with the new legislation - please ensure when you are window shopping that you don't get caught out! Here is an overview of the changes;
- All replacement windows must achieve BFRC Energy rating 'C' or better and be labelled accordingly. There is an alternative to this which states that any window must equal or be better than 1.6 u-value.
- Replacement Doors ( single and double ) must achieve or be better than 1.8 u-value. This will include glass and panels. BFRC ratings at this time will not apply so compliance must be proved otherwise.
- Conservatories. There are no extra requirements to the current regulations if; the floor area is less than 30 sq mtrs, The existing door/wall is left in or replaced with new compliant doors, it is on the ground floor or the heating is not an extension from the house. If outside any of the aforementioned parameters then the proposed conservatory will no longer be exempt from building regulations.
Our advice is to use 'A' rated products now and there will be no need to worry about compliance.
